While Etsy is a great place to sell your goods, it's in your best interests to diversify your sales channels by starting your own website in addition to Etsy.

Thanks for sharing the post. I think Steve's views on this subject are pretty well known. Though he kind of says this already, I'd like to reiterate that, for a seller, sites like Etsy and Ebay still seem like good places to get started if for no other reason than the tremendous traffic already there. Building an audience for your own site is tough work and much easier once you've already got a following and customer base. For the same reason it's a good idea for beginning bloggers to guest post on other people's sites and have a presence in social media besides their own blog, it's a good idea for budding e-commerce retailers to include sites like Etsy and Ebay as places to build a serious following for their products.
