It's not strictly online marketing, but Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Take Hold and Others Come Unstuck, is a great read for anyone who wants to get their message across.

The thing is not be caught off guard and get punched in the face! ;) I am pulling your leg a bit! ;) Talking about boxing and real engagement, have you read Gary Vaynerchuk's latest book, Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World?

Hate is a strong word, but I must say that I am not in favor of automatically generated direct messages. It gets a bit strange start of a conversation with a new contact on Twitter. I like to use DM for private messages with long-time friends and business contacts.

If the folks at Twitter are keen on increasing the engagement, they should look into to hassle with the follow limit rule around 2000 followers.

You're right, hate is a strong word. Maybe 'Strongly dislike' may have been more appropriate, but it's just not as punchy for a title! :)

With followers, it's definitely a case of quality over quantity as far as engagement is concerned!
