The business plan serves some functions. 1) it's a road map. 2) absolutely necessary if you want funding.

If your not looking for funding you might not want to write a whopping business plan. Instead, focus on one page for each element of your business. An example would be a one-page marketing plan, one-page for each product or service being offered (this could become your brochure), one-page financial plan etc. simply use common sense.
