From the blog Traffikd, here are six ways niche social media sites can benefit your blog and brand alot more than big social media sites like Digg. Smaller more niched sites may closer fit your own business or blogging niche thus having a greater chance of attracting the kinds of readers and customers you are hoping to connect with. Smaller niche social networks will also require fewer votes to push your post to the top allowing others and the site to really see what you have to offer.

Another great read Shawn! In fact, I've learned to always check out the articles you submit. They are always good quality and relevant to the questions I ask myself as a small business owner.

I only committed to strengthening my social bookmarking profiles this summer - after Chris Garrett's presentation on social bookmarking at the Social Media Success Summit... and I was ready for it.

I think small businesses need to give niche social bookmarking tools a serious review. As this article points out, a good niche bookmarking tool can bring you qualified traffic. I also like niche bookmarking tools for the community you can create and the social proof within that community has a real value. When you find a niche bookmarking tool that is relevant to your business this provides quality in your online presence.

I see no reason to get on Digg as this is a platform dominated by young geeks who are not my audience. Besides, the traffic would be "empty" traffic and I don't really need that kind of traffic anymore - I'm reaping the benefits of over a year's worth of consistent content marketing.

I've been giving Reddit a try, but this crowd seems similar to the Digg crowd despite the different categories. StumbleUpon is quick and easy - but again the traffic it brings in has an "empty value", so I use it more for networking in wider circles.
