I like the points you make here about things that are not simply SEO issues. Yes, it's important to post for high ranking blogs as a way of promoting your blog with the search engines, but, at its heart, blogging is still a very social and human activity and the importance of the relationships you have the opportunity to forge should never be overlooked.
