It is super confusing to keep up with all these updates as a small business! I guess the major message is to *ALWAYS* have your end user/audience in mind and provide something of value. Google is attempting to make the user experience better. The content and activities we engage in online as businesses should contribute positively to that end user experience, as well.

Sadly, even if mom and pop stores come up with enough of a budget for some SEO, with all all the challenges facing them, they will inevitably have to compromise or make sacrifices which will lead to less rankings on Google

It can make you crazy trying to figure out the next big thing. Better to just do what is right for your customers and leave the SEO to the experts
