I have now installed the Chrome plugin. What is Domain Authority 62 saying for BizSugar?

Hi Lyceum,

A domain authority of 62 would indicate that BizSugar is a respected website. Based on it's link profile and the quality of its content. Moz's ranking scales from 0-100, so the closer to 100 a site is, the more respected it is. Sites like Wikipedia and Facebook, for example, have domain authorities of 100.

Do you install the MozBar in your Chrome browser?

Why do you think Google is dropping PageRank? How do you think a small business owner should evaluate a site's ranking compared with others? What's your take on Amazon's Alexa ranking?

Thanks for the comment Lyceum - always good to hear from you.

The reason for Google dropping PageRank is due to its ability to recognise problematic links (and sites selling them) in a number of different ways - ways that we don't see directly.

In terms of evaluating a site ranking, Moz's page and domain authority tools have pretty much become the industry standard. We'd recommend installing the (free) MozBar as this is a great way to find out the authority of a website directly from search results. As always, quality links from respected sites are the biggest factor in helping a business achieve a high page/domain authority.

Amazon's Alexa ranking is a decent tool and good for competitor research but it is not known for being wholly accurate. It's hampered by the fact that millions of websites do not have the Alexa toolbar installed and may not be ranked correctly. It is also let down by the fact that subdomains aren't ranked separately.

You are right mate. Page Rank is almost dead. So marketers better need to find alternatives to Page Rank. I personally like Moz Open Site Explorer as it gives all the necessary details about a brand. The latest feature, Spam Score is also beneficial to find out how spammy a site is. Other alternatives also have their own value. But I prefer Moz.

Thanks for the comment! We're huge fans of Moz too, and, of the three tools featured in this post, would consider that our "go-to" site - the Spam Score feature is great!
