Believe it or not when people lose their rankings in Google there is a reason for it. Don't panic because it could be a quick fix.

Losing your rankings can mean anything from an increase in competition for your key phrases, which will show a more gradual drop. This is a natural way of losing your Google rankings, and it doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong, but rather that you require a more aggressive search engine optimisation strategy. On the other hand, there is the infamous over optimisation or de-indexation penalty. This is where your site has a sudden drop or is removed from Google's index all together. Thanks for sharing.

Another thing is that people don't do is update their site. Google doesn't like when you don't update your site. It looks like an inactive site when you do this.
