Adam: Thanks for your reply. I have to state my "why" more explicit. I am fighting for a second renaissance by spreading better ideas in the field of business philosophy through new media channels.

Adam - I like your point about putting marketing fundamentals in place before talking about social media. Without having those fundamentals no amount of marketing - online or offline - will help your business. You need to have goals and expectations and put a plan in place before spending (wasting!) money on social media marketing.

I absolutely agree. I interviewed 50+ local business owners this past summer, not one had all the fundamentals in place. Some had some in place, but I saw a lot of "holes" with the basics of marketing.

A lot of small business owners are wasting a lot of money.

Adam: What I have experienced during the years is that business owners have problem with answering the "why" question. They know what and how they are doing stuff, but not why. Maybe this question could be answered if you define your USP.

Agreed. I need to state my "why" on my site, so I am somewhat guilty. I find a lot of business owners do not have a USP, well, not one that is obvious at least.
