Its a very interesting article you are writing and I am curious to see what the future holds. I also read the article by Daniel Scocco and it interesting to see that quite some sites start to move away from guest posts. I do believe that there is a place for guests posts still, the only thing is that the host of the blogs needs to pay more attention to the content and be stricter with whom they give guest post space and to whom they say no!
