Is Long the New Short (When it Comes to Content)?

Some content marketers tout the value of content pillars -- long comprehensive pieces. Other gurus suggest that shorter is better when it comes to blog posts, video and other content marketing. Which is correct?

I have written long and short posts during my 13+ years as a blogger. If I have to put myself in a category, I would say that I have a pundit blogger, publishing short and sweet posts. I am using podcasting as a longer format of content creation, with interviews up to 1 hour long. I will check out Rev.com again, but I don't know if I will be able to cover $60 per episode in transcribing cost, as "poor" capitalist. Maybe I could get patrons / supporters / sponsors via my Patreon page? ;)
