Google would have us believe that SEO happens naturally, simply by writing and sharing great content. Those of us who have spent anytime in the SEO trenches, battling for search rankings...we laugh at the notion of natural search optimization.

Ellen Gipko: Game, set and match! I believe in organic search engine marketing. I don't spend time trying to figure out Google's secret sauce or latest "animal crack(er)" update! ;) Thank for setting the record straight, once for all!

It's truly understandable why small business get so t/o when it comes to deal with SEO. Just when they think they're getting it another major change happens and they are back in dark.....Love the tennis reference :)

Great Article!

It just seems like Google wants it to keep changing things so that its not easy for those who don't stay up-to-date to get good rankings. It's too bad. But there are companies out there who stay up to date and offer those professional services to help small businesses. The REAL SEO is a great strategy.

Keeping up with all the changes in the SEO industry can be confusing, especially to small businesses (who don't typically have big budgets). I think an important question to always have in mind when creating and promoting content is "What is the value to the end user?" If you have something to say, say it and build it on a foundation of solid research about who your audience is, what they search for and how they search for it. If you are creating crappy content to try to attract search engines, you are wasting your time. Always have the value to your audience in mind.

Thanks, Ellen!
