Google announced a new extension to its Chrome browser, an extension that could truly rock the SEO World by enabling searchers to block domains. Says Google anti-spam spokesman Matt Cutts, " If installed, the (Chrome) extension also sends blocked site information to Google, and we will study the resulting feedback and explore using it as a potential ranking signal for our search results."

Two words - HOLY. CRAP. I do hope that Google finds a way to monitor this against abuse -- otherwise, I predict a plethora listings for this type of service being offered for a heck of a lot less that $25. My guess is it would be a staple at Fiverr. Yikes.

Evil or not, I think it will be another entry to be manipulated and I don't see it as positive.

I'm not sure this is necessarily a bad thing. A concerted block effort would be, algorithmically speaking, a google bomb, yes? Like "miserable failure"? Google managed to deal with that problem pretty effectively. If something like this will reduce the poker, pills & porn spam I have to wade through then I'm willing to wait & see.

Hi David,

Thanks for sharing this - site owners should be on the lookout for what will be the new slew of blocker-spammers trying to annihilate competition.

Yoni !!!

You don't believe that for a minute!! (Way to be Devil's Advocate!)

"So far as we are human, what we do must be either evil or good: so far as we do evil or good, we are human: and it is better, in a paradoxical way, to do evil than to do nothing: at least we exist." -- T.S. Eliot

I beg to differ. Better not to exist than to do evil. Earth-devouring space aliens do not exist (so far, it seems). I am very glad that such evil-doers do not exist. Let them do nothing.
