I don't use AdWords often but would definitely suspect it is an effective method of marketing a Website, a very different approach than Search Engine Optimization marketing. On the topic of buying links, obviously this is a very bad idea and will hurt your credibility in the online community not to mention your ranking with search engines.

This was a guest post, and I agree with what you have said. I am not personally a fan of Google Adwords but thought it was a good guide to those that are into it.
Buying links is something that I would never do either.
