As a blogger and social media evangelist since 2002, I don't think "blogging" is a silly word. It is standing for weblog, or log journal, similar to what you have at sea.
I understand your challenge with convincing potential clients, to start blogging, giving the process a new (old) name. But I think we should fight for the word, blogging! ;)
I would like to talk more with you about this topic...
