I especially agree with your point about not having to use popular social networks to drive traffic. That is SO true! Although, I do get traffic from Facebook and Twitter, they are not my biggest traffic referrers. It's actually BizSugar (where I found your post) and building and leveraging relationships with other influential bloggers where I get most of my traffic from.
Traffic generation is not that complicated and like you mention, you can use anything to generate traffic. You just have to be creative and provide great content.
