Are small businesses taking a cue from the nation’s consumers—in other words, borrowing less and paying down debts? That seems to be the case based on two separate reports out from PayNet.

Not sure these indications are necessarily bad. It would be nice to see more economic growth, but small businesses may simply be taking a more cautious approach to growth reflecting a more conservative attitude about credit. If growth stays dead with small businesses being afraid to expand even as the economy continues to improve, it may be cause for alarm, but I'm not sure it's time to push the panic button yet.
