There’s been a great deal written about the theory of using Twitter to get more traffic to your blog or website, but very little in terms of actionable, proven strategies. I hope to change that with this case study, and what I call the ‘Triple Twitter Traffic Technique’.

Wow! This is a really thorough and informative case study. I really love the way you laid it all out for us. I've just taken on a client that needs help getting more traffic and exposure on Twitter and this article just gave me a ton of ideas. Thanks!

Loz: Do you know about small business Twitter accounts that have used this technique? Have you used the service, Snip.ly, that is mention by Andrew McCauley?

Hi Martin

In answer to your first question - you would need a reasonable sharing base across all social media platforms to 'sweeten the deal' - but you could also offer to share with a mailing list too.

I don't know of any other small business accounts using this other than Andrew - except me now :-) But I'm sure there are loads of small firms using a variation of this strategy. One of the comments on my blog says they are using a similar strategy, and I've used Twitter for outreach in not so different ways.

Secondly, I have tried Snip.ly (for a couple of weeks on selected social media shares last year). It does work and has its place - and I will be using it going forward - but it will be a selective thing as I think too much could be counterproductive.
