Shannon: The most important thing is that consumers are getting informed about the producers important role in the society. Without the creators, inventors, entrepreneurs and capitalists, we would not be able to consume stuff.

Have you read the book, Atlas Shrugged?

Do you have examples of towns and cities that have had successful events on Small Business Saturday?

Shannon: Thanks for the information. Personally, I don't think it should be a "we" against "them" mindset. Every single store and big chain, have started as a small business. As a social media evangelist, I have ideas how a local brick-and-mortar shop could compete in an economical, efficient and effective way, by using smart activities with new media tools.

Right... I agree that consumers will never be able to solely shop local... which is why it's so great that we have days like SBS to help raise awareness of why it's so important to support local when you can and to help teach business owners how they can compete alongside chains.

Shannon: How many years have Small Business Saturday been around? Why should you have a special day for small businesses? Shouldn't it be everyday? ;)

Hey, Lyceum! I believe SBS was established in 2010. And, yes, ideally it would be every day but unfortunately that's not quite the mindset yet. But, with events like Small Business Saturday, and the shop-local movement in general, hopefully spending your dollars in your own community by choosing local vs. chain will become the everyday mentality at some point.
