Have you ever just followed what someone said to do when marketing your brand and not really understand why you are doing it? I have when I started in marketing many years ago and it got me into trouble.

Hi Susan,

when I'm doubting some new idea I always like consulting with a friend! There aren't two people who think alike. There may be certain aspects I overlooked!

Sharing an idea with someone is good as they can also be more objective than we can.

Thanks Ivin

Susan

I think you know, that I'm totally with you on this one.

Yoni brings up a very interesting point regarding Ego...lord knows I've been subject to my fair share of them. Those people that would rather be right, than get results.

I wonder what those people are doing now.

Hi Jackie,

I do know you agree and regarding ego perhaps it is also a case of not wanting to to feel dumb so they get defensive.

Hopefully, they are the ones asking you if you would like to super-size your fries!

Let's call it fast-food karma.

Susan,

Really great points. Understanding is vital as is initiative to find out other and better ways of doing things.

I found the culture in the military to be counter to these rules. It is a culture which spawns unquestioning, sometimes blind-obedience. It's a question of "shut up and do what we tell you" and "you don't need to know why, just do it!" It would be a horrible method in the business or marketing worlds.

In the business world I have also found that the egos of superiors often collide with new and better ways, unless of course it is their idea.

There are so many reasons why you need inside knowledge of the machinations of a business, both the understand the current system and to find ways to tweek things for a better oucome.

Good example of the military Yoni and I have seen that attitude in companies as well. What people don't realise if you take the time to get understanding it makes marketing in this case so much easier to do.

I love the "scary president", Susan. I'm picturing Ed Asner as Lou Grant from the old "Mary Tyler Moore" show.

Unfortunately he did not have even a bit of a soft heart and I don't think he even cracked a smile at any time.
