Connely: I know that Clear Channels has been debated as one of the big players around the world, so I can understand if they want to soften its image a bit, but I am not sure if it is the right move. Personally, I like the name, Clear Channel. They could use it in different ways, e.g., Clear SOCIAL MEDIA Channel, Clear RADIO Channel, etc.

I see where you're coming from. You devised a pretty good workaround for one of the problems the company perceived with the name—it limited them to one channel when they expanded to others... But in my opinion, Clear Channel has the feel of a generic, outdated umbrella corporation name. iHeartMedia is not a great name, but I think it's better—and it does play off the positive brand recognition they already have from their popular iHeartRadio app. So I can see why they chose it.

Isn't Clear Channel more than radio, for example, billboard ads? I didn't know that iHeartMedia was the former Clear Channel network. How will this transformation work out, do you think?

Thanks for the comment, Lyceum. I believe the advertising arm of the company will remain known as Clear Channel, while the media, social and events areas of the company will fall under iHeartMedia. So it's a little confusing. But iHeartMedia is certainly a warmer, less-corporate name that consumers will probably respond to a little better.
