Do your propsects immediately understand and remember your marketing messages? If not, you probably need to be more concrete. Watch this short video to find out how to do this based on a sticky principle from Dan & Chip Heath’s book, Made to Stick.

I think the best way to do it is talk about the value your business provides to your customers. It's all about the value you provide that people are interested in, not the details about your business.

And the more concrete you can be when you communicate the value of your business, the better. Thank you for your comment.

Stephanie: Thanks for your great input! I will "chew" these metaphors and come up with something. Have you bumped into companies that are good at explaining things in "plain English," e.g., CommonCraft?

Excellent Martin. Indeed, Common Craft is one of the original creators of 'explainer videos' and here is a link to more companies that do similar things: http://www.moreofit.com/similar-to/www.commoncraft.com/Top_10_Sites_Like_Commoncraft/

Stephanie: Thanks for sharing your video on how to explain your USP, so it will stick! How would visualize a social media evangelist's work, helping companies, organizations and personal brand on how to navigate on the social web and facilitate a conversation with their customers? ;)

Great question Martin! Think about some concrete examples that you can use as metaphors for social media. It's like a virtual handshake or phone call. It's like sharing a hot cup of coffee with a client, virtually. Maybe you can share a concrete example of a client who had a complaint and how it was resolved. You can also think about the concrete benefits that a company gets by using social media. Hope this helps.

If you're willing, please share what you come up with here.
