It’s common knowledge that a sale to an existing customer is easier and less expensive than finding a new customer. You’ve made excellent points in your article. I try, as matter of habit, to pick up the phone and speak to an existing customer every week. It’s an easy way to keep in touch and the calls almost always turn up something good for me along with some extra good will.

It is interesting that it is common knowledge and really commonsense, yet some still don't get it. Not sure why. Your way s simple and obviously works well.

I have a friend who always seems to meet the nicest young ladies. The proble is he's always looking for the next one and sort of forgets about the current one, much to her dismay.
There's also a gym I belong to that always has a great deal for new members, but the membership fee for the veterans goes up every year.
There is a tendency to always be looking over the horizon for new scores, but as you mentioned, it's vitally important to give current clients and customers preferential treatment.

Your example of gyms is a good one and even the small gyms do the same thing here. Perhaps they are too comfortable and don't care if some leave.
Thanks for your comment.
