Have you heard about the Referral Institute? There you get educated in the art of networking. Your #3 tip is very important. Don't become an "alligator" with a big mouth and small ears! ;)
I recommend you to check out John Jantsch's book, Referral Marketing, and the works by Dr. Ivan Misner (the founder of BNI and co-founder of the Referral Institute).
