Heather, I think the key issue is to make sure the big task is aligned to the highest priorities of the CEO's objectives. If you are a one man band that should be simple. If you are part of a larger business perhaps you need to confirm the one big task that would help the CEO/company achieve the 2013 essential goals.

Always choose tasks that you have control over. Of course if you think you need more control then lobby for it to make completion of the task more attainable.

I like the idea of picking just one big thing for your to-do list going into 2013. Some businesses have far too many making things a bit overwhelming. Any further guidance on how to be sure the goal is comprehensive enough to make a difference in your company, yet realistic enough to be attainable?
