You know, Rod, I think in the world of management particularly in smaller or startup businesses not only candor but also transparency of communication is a tremendous help replacing a more archaic chain of command. Private social online networks can offer an excellent way of disseminating information quickly to far flung staff and contractors. Avoiding the hording of information allows all parts of your company to benefit. If you can afford a private internal intranet system this is great too, however, realistically for small companies, unless sensitive trade or personnel information is being discussed, free online tools often work just as effectively.
