Probably more than half of Fortune 500 organizations use a balanced scorecard in one way or another. Cy Charney, one of the authors mentioned in the article, provided a local hospital in Orangeville, Ontario, as a good example of an organization that successfully uses a balanced scorecard. It’s the Headwaters Health Care Centre. Many scorecards contain confidential information so it's not easy to access examples.

Integrating the scorecard into your daily business functions is the key to success as the balanced scorecard needs to become the nerve center of the organization. Engaging employees at each level to identify indicators, set goals, and develop plans for improvement are fundamental to success. For that, you need a culture that values engagement and freedom to innovate.
