When I started my business nearly 10 years ago, like many newly self-employed or freelance folks out there, I had one client, no business plan, and, yes, I’ll freely admit it, no idea what was ahead of me.

But I learned a lot of lessons along the way that make the difference between being a successful freelancer and failure. From the simple things like making sure you register your business properly, to having the confidence to turn down the wrong kind of client, the lessons below should be embraced by all freelancers.
