Really useful tips. I've been reading quite a bit on this topic recently and one tip I read about is undertaking several interviews. Interviews are great to get to know more about your candidates and the more interviews you have, the more you learn about your future teammates..and how they interact with you and your team.
I'd definitely agree with not hiring yourself! A great one but often over-looked.
