AWS and Techstars Unite to Launch Global Bootcamps for Underrepresented Founders

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Techstars have joined forces to launch the AWS Impact Bootcamps, a global initiative aimed at empowering underrepresented startup founders. This program responds to the pressing need for inclusivity in the startup ecosystem, providing essential training, mentorship, and funding opportunities.

Dr. Nashlie Sephus, Principal AI/ML Tech Evangelist at AWS, emphasized the program’s mission: “Talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not.” With this initiative, AWS seeks to expand on its previous $30 million commitment aimed at supporting diverse founders in the Black, Women, Latino, and LGBTQIA+ communities. The Impact Bootcamps aim to cultivate innovation by removing barriers for these underrepresented groups.

The AWS Impact Bootcamp will be held in six key cities: Atlanta, New York, Mexico City, London, Tokyo, and Berlin. Each two-day bootcamp is designed to equip early-stage founders with technical training, business expertise, and crucial networking opportunities. Participants will also receive $5,000 in AWS promotional credits, allowing them to harness the capabilities of one of the leading cloud platforms in the world.

David Cohen, Founder and CEO of Techstars, shares his excitement about the partnership, stating, “This partnership with AWS will allow us to reach founders we might not otherwise meet and give them the mentorship and guidance they need to scale.” This belief emphasizes the importance of outreach to diverse communities, ensuring that innovative ideas can flourish regardless of their origins.

The first bootcamp is set to kick off in Atlanta on September 8-9, 2025, with subsequent sessions rolling out in the months following. To be eligible for the program, founders must identify as part of an underrepresented community or demonstrate substantial engagement in supporting such communities. Candidates should also show a clear need for cloud technology and have either self-funded, angel-backed, or raised up to Series A funding, with aspirations to scale or secure further funding in the near future.

Those who excel during the bootcamps may qualify for the AWS Founder Retreat, which will provide opportunities for in-person investor meetings and a chance to win up to $50,000 in unrestricted grant funding, alongside an additional $15,000 in AWS promotional credits. Furthermore, standout participants will be considered for Techstars’ accelerator programs, which provide extensive support for startups.
