We like to work on the parts of our business that are fun to us. Even the prospect of, "I have to do this to get paid" isn't usually enough to keep us from putting off our invoicing. Does this make us bad business people? No. It's normal.

I'm as bad about this as anyone, but here's a little tip I've learned. Try to get payment up front. It's a good practice for startups anyway with their constant need for cash flow. I find if I send an invoice asking for money immediately, often before the job is even completed, sometimes before it even starts, I won't procrastinate toward the end...and surprisingly, some businesses like paying as they go anyway.

Good tips. You could also sell your invoices through a factoring service company.
