To strike it rich or hash it rich? The recent scramble for Bitcoin fortunes bears an odd resemblance to the Gold Rush of California in the mid-19th Century. But instead of shovels and buckets, these miners use computers and cryptography. While there has been a period of overnight Bitcoin fortunes, the real billionaires will be those creating the industries around it.

Interesting comparison of the historical gold rush and the BitCoin craze. It is important to state that Bitcoin doesn't have any objective backing, like gold or silver. Bitcoin is interesting as a new financial phenomena and a critical voice in the era of fiat currency. The question is if the small business owner could use Bitcoin in a smart way? I look forward to the day when a modern, secure cryptocurrency is backed by real money, e.g., gold and silver. In the meantime, I will accept payment in silver bullion bars and coins.
