Hello Miranda. I guess the wisest advice... or point you shared here is having an emergency fund. If you got retrenched with a severance package after years of service, that should help a little. And then, my advice before taking the plunge would be to set up some monthly clients, even if you outsource the work to focus on expansion :)

Many people do not even know the basic rules how to survive and stay on big scene with own business and that sometimes can be fatal. But many of them also learn and get experience how to manage and stay competitive!
