Yes, although I did not personally write this article (its written by a contributor on my site), I do work for a small business entity that "found its niche". I handle marketing for a company called SureShade - American startup that I have been with since the beginning - we make retractable sunshades for the boating industry and basically created a new niche in the industry for branded shade systems. SureShade is still very much a growing small business but we are quickly becoming the new standard for shade in boating available on over 50 boat models worldwide.

I would say identifying an unmet need in a market and developing a differentiated solution (service/product). The challenge is creating something of REAL value to the segment or niche - not just spinning the same value proposition just for a specific niche.
