Well said!! At this point on Facebook it really doesn't matter much if you have 100 likes or 100,000 likes - either way you are paying for exposure to contacts. This is why we are seeing a LOT of top brands getting aggressive about email opt-ins right now. Small businesses need to follow their lead.

Email marketing has been and will most likely remain an extremely viable tool for all the reasons mentioned in this article. Email is also different from social media in that it is often much easier to create engagement that takes someone out of their inbox as opposed to switching someone's focus away from a highly interactive social media feed in order to create a conversion. Aside from this, the best point in this article is that you don't own your followers. That should be a real consideration for businesses that are sitting on a ton of likes, as well as a prompt for them to start doubling down on customer data and getting those email addresses!
