Salesforce Invests $1 Billion in Italy to Boost Agentic AI Development

Share

Salesforce, a leader in customer relationship management, has announced an ambitious $1 billion investment in Italy over the next five years, signaling a robust commitment to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and fostering economic growth in the region. The announcement was made by CEO Marc Benioff during his visit to Milan, coinciding with the Third Annual Rome Conference on AI, Ethics, and Governance.

Italy is increasingly recognized as a significant center for AI innovation, fueled by its creativity and strong entrepreneurial spirit. This investment aims to enhance Salesforce’s existing infrastructure, expand its local workforce, and support upskilling programs that will facilitate broader adoption of AI technologies across both the enterprise and public sectors.

“Our commitment to expanding in Italy is fueled by the country’s exceptional creativity and deep industrial expertise,” Benioff stated. “We look forward to pioneering the next wave of AI transformation to help every company become an agentic enterprise.”

Salesforce’s investment will establish a new office in Milan located at Palazzo Missori, a prime development in the city’s Central Business District. This facility will not only accommodate Salesforce employees but also provide collaborative spaces for partners and customers to innovate and implement AI solutions aimed at solving practical business challenges.

The company plans to create new roles in data science, agentic AI, and deployment engineering, emphasizing local expertise to guide Italian organizations through their AI transformations.

Central to this initiative is the launch of the Enterprise Architecture Academy, designed to enhance AI skills among Salesforce partners and customers. The academy aims to engage over 70 participants initially, equipping them with the critical knowledge necessary for digital transformation across Italy.

Vanessa Fortarezza, SVP & Country General Manager of Salesforce Italy, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “At Salesforce, we are committed to building a future-ready Italy that leads in the agentic AI era. The Enterprise Architecture Academy puts this ambition into action, equipping partners, customers, and Salesforce engineers with the skills to thrive.”

Salesforce’s agentic AI platform, known as Agentforce, is already utilized by prominent Italian brands like Ferrari and Enel. These organizations leverage the platform for various benefits, from improving customer relations to automating service responses. For instance, Telepass has successfully automated 84% of its customer service interactions through Agentforce, allowing their staff to focus on more complex customer needs. Trenitalia, Italy’s leading rail operator, also employs Agentforce to optimize service for over 500 million passengers annually.

Francesco Cacciapuoti, Chief Sales Officer of Trenitalia, highlighted the transformative impact of Agentforce: “By handling complexity behind the scenes, Agentforce allows our teams to be more present for customers. This is what digital transformation should look like: technology that elevates our people, empowering them to do what they do best.”

However, small business owners should carefully evaluate the implications of such rapid advancements. The introduction of AI may necessitate significant adjustments in staffing, operational processes, and strategic planning. The fast-paced development of AI technologies could also raise ethical considerations that demand thoughtful engagement and preparation.

Salesforce has also been proactive in community engagement, contributing over $926,000 and 73,500 volunteer hours through its philanthropic model. Its partnerships with organizations like ELIS focus on enhancing career longevity for older workers and fostering intergenerational collaboration. Additionally, as a sponsor of the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Salesforce has initiated programs to assist athletes in transitioning their skills to the modern workforce.

Through these initiatives, Salesforce is positioning itself as a pivotal player in Italy’s AI landscape while aiming to empower businesses and communities alike. As small business owners consider embracing AI, they can look to Salesforce’s investment as a catalyst for growth and a model for navigating the complexities of technological advancements.
